- That's almost always a failed wax ring seal between the toilet and the floor flange. It needs to be replaced by removing and resetting the toilet — left alone, it will keep damaging the subfloor underneath.
- How long does a toilet replacement take?
- A standard toilet swap is usually a same-day job, assuming the flange underneath is in good condition. If the flange itself needs repair, it can take a bit longer.
- Is it worth replacing an old toilet that still works?
- If it's using significantly more water per flush than a modern model, or shows any of the wear signs above, replacing it often pays for itself over time in water savings and avoids an unexpected failure later.
